LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police say a 23-year-old officer who has been with the department for two years shot and injured a woman who had a shovel and was "acting erratically" over the weekend.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement Monday night that Officer Ondre Wills was among those responding to the incident Saturday night in east Las Vegas.

Police spokesman Lt. Peter Kisfalvi said the woman was told to put the shovel down but approached a bystander. Wills then shot the woman. She was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
