County Fire To Revive Heavy Rescue Program

The Clark County Fire Department is restoring a special unit with expertise in rescuing people at high altitudes and in other high-risk situations in anticipation of Strip construction projects.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that the county’s Heavy Rescue program, which has been defunct since 2010 when its duties were outsourced to the city of Las Vegas, should be up and running again by July.

Fire Chief Greg Cassell said his staff is preparing to deal with construction accidents as major projects get underway, including The Drew Las Vegas, Resort World, and a stadium.
