Reno Creates Misconduct Hotline For City Employees

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The Reno City Council has voted unanimously to create a misconduct hotline where city workers can register complaints anonymously.

Mayor Hillary Schieve proposed the idea last week and the council approved it Wednesday.

The move comes on the heels of criticism about the way the city has handled a series of complaints about sexual misconduct. But the mayor says she wants to be available 24 hours a day to field any sort of concerns ranging from sexual harassment to waste, fraud and abuse.

The number is 1-866-RNO-TIPS. Two human resources staff members will be responsible for listening to each message and investigating complaints.

Schieve also suggested that the city send a survey to all employees to collect their input on the process.
