Nevada Lieutenant Governor Mark Hutchison, in his role as a private attorney, sought Wednesday to prevent two Las Vegas council members from voting on development plans for the closed Badlands Golf Course.
Hutchison, representing the property’s developer, said Bob Coffin and Steve Seroka should recuse themselves from voting because of past comments he said show bias against his client.
"My client cannot receive a fair hearing or have a fair and impartial tribunal as is required under the Constitution, and I respectfully ask, again, that Councilman Seroka and Councilman Coffin no longer participate in these proceedings," Hutchinson said.
Council approval is required to turn the site of the Badlands course at Alta and Rampart into a mix of multi- and single-family residences.
Many neighbors in the nearby Queensridge development oppose the project, which was the chief issue in Seroka’s election campaign last year.
City Attorney Brad Jerbic rejected Hutchison’s concerns and said the two councilmen were free to vote on Badlands matters
