CCSD School Board To Consider Leaving NV Energy

The Clark County School District board of trustees will consider leaving the energy grid at their meeting this week.

If they move forward, it would become the first major public entity to leave NV Energy.

Backers of the plan have said it could save the school district millions of dollars by working with private companies to produce an alternative source of energy.

An exit fee would be required to withdraw from NV energy which could cost up to $80 million. When gaming giant MGM Resorts opted out of NV Energy to purchase its own electricity, it cost the company $86.9 million for the privilege of leaving.
