NYE Crowd Projections Show Decrease From Last Year

The crowd in Las Vegas set to ring in the New Year might be a little smaller this year.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority released numbers this week, estimating around 330,000 people will be in Las Vegas for New Years Eve.

That’s a 1.2 percent drop from last year, but officials say it doesn’t have anything to do with safety concerns in the wake of the October 1 mass shooting.

LVCVA said the decline will likely be due to the loss of hotel rooms due to renovations at Palace Station, and other renovations MGM is undertaking.

Those visitors are expected to spend about $254.3 million on food, hotels and gambling on New Years Eve, which is also a 1.2 percent decrease from last year. Hotels will be more than 97 percent occupied.
