More Than 100 Nevada Inmates Dispatched To Fight California Fires

Nearly 130 Nevada inmates have been deployed to help battle fires tearing through Southern California.

The Nevada Department of Corrections said six crews were sent from several prisons in the state.

The inmates have been trained at conservation camps where they learned to fight fires, remove snow and assist with community efforts.

One hundred and five men and 21 women were deployed from Three Lakes Valley Conservation Camp outside of Las Vegas and Stewart Conservation Camp outside of Carson City as well as camps in Pioche, Ely and Jean.

A spokesperson with the Department of Corrections said the inmates are minimum security, and they are prepared to send more if necessary.
