LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas officials have scrapped a proposal for a new downtown municipal courthouse after soliciting bids earlier this year.
The Review-Journal reportedSunday that the original call for a new building was contingent on a deal in which the city would sell its space in the Regional Justice Center to Clark County. But city Communications Director David Riggleman said county commissioners weren't moving the deal forward.
Las Vegas spokesman Jace Radke said in January that city officials were banking on a county buyout and other court revenue to make the potential courthouse cost-neutral to taxpayers.
Riggleman says that nevertheless, the city is happy with its current space.
Las Vegas municipal court judges handle criminal misdemeanor offenses, traffic violations, civil ordinance and municipal code infractions.
