Firefighters Found Explosives, Survivalist Cabins While Battling Brian Head Fire

During the summer’s large fire near Brian Head, Utah authorities found a large number of explosives and illegally built survivalist cabins.

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office released a statement Thursday saying while fire crews were battling the 71,000-acre blaze, they found boxes of modified novelty hand grenades, explosive powder, fuses and ammunition in multiple survivalist bunkers.

The St. George Spectrum reportsIron County officials requested assistance from the Washington County bomb squad and the FBI’s Salt Lake City division to dispose of the items, significantly slowing firefighting efforts in the area.
