UNR Official Says Upcoming Residence Halls Will Add 500 Beds

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A University of Nevada, Reno official says there will be more on-campus housing options available for students when a new residence hall is opened and the remodel of a second residence hall is complete.

Vice President of Student Services Shannon Ellis says more than 500 additional beds will be available for students after the two projects are completed.

The Reno Gazette-Journal  reported Thursday that the projects will help alleviate the university's on-campus housing which reached 120 percent occupancy at the beginning of the fall semester.

The new Great Basin Hall is expected to open August 2018.

The $57 million residence hall will house more than 400 students.

Officials expect to reopen the 1896 Manzanita Hall, which had to be retrofitted to withstand earthquakes, in 2019.
