Trump To Announce Plans To Shrink 2 National Monuments In Utah

President Donald Trump will fly to Utah on Monday to announce a plan to shrink the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports Trump will travel to Salt Lake City for the announcement to change the boundaries of the two monuments but will not actually visit them and is not expected to stay overnight in Utah.

Trump ordered a review of all monuments designated under the Antiquities Act going back to 1996, and under recommendations by Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke will likely cut the monument sizes at least in half.

Bears Ears is currently 1.35 million acres, and Zinke previously said it would likely be around 180,000 acres after the change.
