School Board Must Cut Another $22M From District Budget

The Clark County School Board must find another $22.5 million to cut from the district's budget.

In an announcement Wednesday, the district blamed some of the additional shortfall on rising charter-school enrollment.

The school board already approved three rounds of cuts which amount to about $40 million.

The cuts are part of a larger plan to cover a budget deficit that sits around $60 million, although district officials have said that exact number is hard to pin down.

An independent audit of CCSD’s annual financial review found no material instances of fraud, but despite the findings at least two trustees and other community members are calling for a further analysis.

The latest announcement of impending cuts furthers rising tensions between a district struggling to keep up with a state-mandated reorganization.
