One Of The Last Dry Counties In Utah Deciding On Allowing Alcohol Sales

The city of Blanding, Utah, will ask its voters Tuesday whether to allow beer and wine sales.

The town of 3,500 is one of the last remaining dry communities in the state and has been that way for the last 80 years.

The majority of Blanding residents are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which teaches its members to avoid alcohol.

But some restaurant and hotel owners said the city needs to accommodate drinkers and the influx of tourists. Should the measure pass, alcohol sales would likely start in summer 2018.
