Gas Station Owner Weighs In On UNR Cop Costume Debate

A Reno gas station owner is getting involved in the debate over a costume worn by a University of Nevada, Reno police officer on Halloween.

The owner of the Wolf Fastop, which is across the street from the campus, has put up a picture of a cartoon character urinating on the name “Kaepernick” on the marquee, according to an article in the Reno Gazette-Journal.

Under the picture is the phrase: “Unemployed.  Need job.  Work good on his knees.”

The owner of the gas station said the marquee is in protest to the backlash suffered by a UNR officer, who dressed as former Wolfpack and 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick for Halloween.

The officer wore a wig and a red T-Shirt with 49ers on it. He held a sign that said: “Will Stand for Food.”

Kaepernick has filed a grievance with the NFL, accusing the league owners of not hiring him because he took a knee during the national anthem in protest of racial injustice.

The gas station owner said he respects Kaepernick’s right to protest, but he knows the police officer and told the RGJ that the officer is “a nice guy.”
