Federal Judge Postpones Recall Hearing

A federal judge has indefinitely postponed arguments relating to a recall effort of three Nevada state senators.

Lawyers for the Nevada Democratic Party filed lawsuits in October against the recall efforts, claiming that a recall election would violate certain constitutional rights and the federal Voting Rights Act.

The Nevada Independent reports, Democratic attorneys filed another order on Friday, asking the judge to delay any action until a separate state-level lawsuit was heard.

The state lawsuit challenges the number of signatures turned in to recall state Senator Joyce Woodhouse and is due for a hearing on Dec. 19.

District Court Judge James Mahan agreed to delay the case Wednesday, noting that holding a federal hearing before the state-level would be premature.
