County Commissioner Advocates For Banning Private Vehicles From The Strip

A Las Vegas Strip without traffic is a concept being presented by Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani.

The commissioner is suggesting that private vehicles should be barred from cruising the area spanning from Mandalay Bay to the Stratosphere. Heavy traffic makes it difficult for police, fire and paramedic vehicles to quickly respond to emergencies on Las Vegas Boulevard.

Under the proposal, only pedestrians, buses, taxicabs and ride-hailing companies would be allowed along the Strip - as a way to improve pedestrian safety and provide better access for first responders.

The RTC of Southern Nevada has agreed to spend some $2 million to examine transit options for the Strip - and Giunchigliani hopes her idea will be included in the study.
