ACLU Suing State Over Legal Representation In Rural Counties

The ACLU of Nevada has sued the state of Nevada for violating the constitutional rights of people in 11 of its rural counties.

According to the suit, Nevada has not made sure that everyone accused of a crime who cannot afford a personal lawyer has access to legal representation.

Instead, these counties use contract attorneys who receive flat fees for their services.

The ACLU says this gives the attorneys financial incentive to provide as little legal assistance to these low-income clients as possible.
