MGM Resorts Announces It Is Bringing The WNBA To Las Vegas

In the latest wave of professional sports announcements in Las Vegas, MGM Resorts has purchased the WNBA’s San Antonio Stars.

The resort company will soon move the franchise to Las Vegas to play its home games at Mandalay Bay Events Center starting in May 2018.

The sale of the team was first reported last week by the Associated Press, but the buyer remained a mystery until a statement was released Tuesday morning by the WNBA president, who called the move to Las Vegas a match made in heaven.

The move has already been approved by the WNBA and NBA Board of Governors.

MGM Resorts hired former NBA star and New York Liberty head coach Bill Laimbeer as the Las Vegas team’s head coach and president of basketball operations.

This will be the first professional basketball team in Las Vegas.
