Tribes, outdoor hobbyists and environmentalists are standing in opposition to the Bureau of Land Management’s bids to allow oil and gas leases in the Ruby Mountains and parts of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.
The Nevada Independent reports the BLM asked the U.S. Forest Service to look into the feasibility of oil and gas leasing in the area earlier this year.
A BLM spokesman says auctions are unlikely to happen before 2019.
