Bundy Co-Defendant Asking For Delay After Sunday's Shooting

A co-defendant of state's rights' figure Cliven Bundy is requesting that their impending trial be pushed back following Sunday night’s mass shooting.

Ryan Payne says next week’s jury selection should be delayed out of respect for shooting victims and their families.

Defense lawyers filed a motion Tuesday to postpone the trial, writing, “This unprecedented act of violence will prevent the defendants from having a fair trial in this city one week from now.”

The attorneys say jurors are likely to show prejudice in light of this week’s violence, regardless of how rigorous the vetting process is.  The attack left 59 people, including the gunman dead, and injured more than 500.

Bundy and his associates are being tried on charges related to an armed standoff with federal agents.
