Road Closures For 'Life is Beautiful' Festival Began Wednesday Night

The first phase of downtown street closures begin Wednesday in anticipation of the upcoming Life is Beautiful art and music festival.

Starting at midnight, Mesquite Avenue will close between Las Vegas Boulevard and Eighth Street, and Seventh and Sixth streets will close between Stewart Avenue and U.S. Highway 95.

This is the first of seven phases of road closures leading up to the event which takes place September 22-24.

The festival is expected to draw more than 100,000 people downtown for the weekend, taking up a total of 18 city blocks downtown. The next phase of street closures will come Friday and then Monday:

Friday 9/15

• 10th Street will close between Ogden Avenue and Fremont Street

• Eighth Street will close between Fremont Street and Carson Avenue
