Nevada State College received a $2.7 million federal grant to expand educational opportunities for Hispanic students who want to become teachers.
It is the largest grant in the college’s history, which comes from the U.S. Department of Education’s Hispanic-Serving Institutions Title V Program, and is designed to attract more Hispanic high school students to pursue careers in education.
It will also assist them in passing the teacher competency exams and decrease the time it takes for students to finish their degrees. Of the 550 freshman students enrolled at Nevada State College in 2017, 58 percent are Hispanic.
