Gov. Sandoval Comes Out Against Pot Lounges

Just days after the state of Nevada clarified that marijuana lounges and cafes are legal, Governor Brian Sandoval clarified he does not support them.

The Legislative Counsel Bureau released an opinion this week that said nothing in state law would prevent cities and counties from allowing pot lounges.

It’s been a sticking point for industry advocates who say tourists have no legal option to consume marijuana since casinos won’t allow its use on their properties.

Sandoval told the Las Vegas Review-Journal yesterday that he thinks the move would invite more federal scrutiny to the state, and said his position has not changed since the spring when his opposition to lounges helped kill a bill in the Nevada Legislature.

Sandoval continued by saying he thinks it’s “way too early to be doing something like that.”
