Two GOP Politicians Lead Charge In Tax Repeal Effort

Two Nevada Republican politicians are leading the charge to repeal the state’s commerce tax.

The Las Vegas Review Journal reportsNevada Controller Ron Knecht and former Las Vegas City Councilman Bob Beers filed a petition last week with the Secretary of State’s Office to ask voters to overturn the tax passed by the legislature in 2015.

The tax applies to businesses with annual gross revenues that exceed $4 million. Republican Governor Brian Sandoval spearheaded the commerce tax as a way to fund public education.

If petitioners can collect a little more than 112,000 signatures from registered voters in Nevada, the measure will go to the ballot in the 2018 general election. The deadline for the signatures is June 19, 2018.
