RTC To Stream Bus Footage To Metro

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada says Las Vegas police will be able to stream live footage from inside city buses during emergency situations through surveillance cameras by the end of the year.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the move is in response to a lengthy standoff earlier this year at the Strip where officers could not see the movements of a gunman who barricaded himself inside a bus.

Director of Technical Equipment and Transit Amenities Carl Scarbrough says they are looking at a $225,000 cost for the live-streaming capabilities if the agency is able to use the wireless internet routers already equipped on their buses. The price tag would increase to about $500,000 if an upgrade is required.
