In Relief For Officials, Crowds Smaller Than Expected For Regatta Homage

Despite fears a commemoration of the Bullhead City regatta would lead to crowd trouble on the Colorado River this weekend, officials say crowds were smaller than anticipated.

The Mohave Valley Daily News reports the number of people floating on the river Saturday was about what's normal for this time of year.

City officials had worried large crowds would overwhelm the river in an attempt to recreate the former Bullhead City regatta.

The event, which was formerly held every year, was canceled by the Bullhead City council due to safety concerns and worries of limited resources.

People had created a Facebook event advertising the proposed homage to the regatta, and more than 700 said they were interested in coming.

It's estimated only about half that total actually showed up, though.
