Elko County Commissioners are considering toughening up laws on recreational marijuana establishments.
Concerns over federal law led the commissioners to vote in favor of an ordinance that will prohibit marijuana facilities in the county’s unincorporated areas.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports the ordinance would prohibit any business from growing or selling marijuana, but it would not affect an individual’s right to grow their own.

The rule would apply countywide except incorporated cities such as Elko, Carlin, Wells and West Wendover. Elko County has banned medical marijuana establishments in unincorporated areas since June 2014.
