Spending On Yucca Mtn. Not Included In Senate Subcommittee Spending Bill

A Senate subcommittee approved a spending bill Tuesday that does NOT include the licensing of Yucca Mountain.

The Trump administration had in its budget requested $120 million to restart the nuclear licensing to store nuclear waste at the site in Nye County.

A house panel also included this funding in its version of the legislation. The action by the Senate Appropriations subcommittee on energy and water development sets up a full committee vote Thursday.

A bipartisan cohort of Nevada lawmakers supported this omission of funding for Yucca Mountain, including Senator Dean Heller, and Representative Dina Titus. Most of Nevada lawmakers are also against the project, including Governor Brian Sandoval.

Representative Mark Amodei and officials in Nye County have urged the licensing process to continue.
