Planning Commission Approves New Downtown Grand Tower

The Downtown Grand hotel and casino received approval this week from the Las Vegas Planning Commission to build an eight-story hotel tower on Fourth Street.

The third tower will nearly double the number of hotel rooms, adding another 495 rooms. The new building will occupy space currently taken by the surface parking and guest arrival lot.

The Las Vegas City Council must vote on the plans before the Downtown Grand can move forward. They are expected to make that vote in August.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that details on the cost of the project weren’t available, but for comparison, the Golden Nugget completed a 25-story 500-room tower in 2009 for a cost of $150 million.
