Land Transfer Will Create New State Park

A land transfer set to take place from private hands to the state will soon become Nevada’s newest state park.

Lawmakers will soon be asked to approve an agreement to accept 12,000 acres of land along the East Fork of the Walker River in Western Nevada. The land will become the Walker River State Recreation Area and is valued at more than $8 million, but comes at no charge to the state.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the Legislature’s Interim Finance Committee will consider the request at its meeting June 20. Sandoval signed a bill on Monday which provides funding for the new recreation area.
