Defense Attorney Facing Charges For Giving Cell Phone To Inmate Looking For New Attorney

A criminal defense attorney in Las Vegas who is facing felony charges for providing an inmate with a cell phone is now without a lawyer after her lawyer withdrew his representation.

Alexis Plunkett has asked Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Karen Bennett for 30 days to hire new counsel. Prosecutors in the case say that Plunkett provided a cell phone to Andrew Arevalo and Rogelio Estrada while they were being held at the Clark County Detention Center.

Plunkett maintains that she believed the calls she made from the jail regarding their cases were authorized. Plunkett has also admitted to having a romantic relationship with Arevalo since 2012. Arevalo was shot in the face during a 2014 shooting at High Desert State Prison that left another man dead.
