Nevada Senate Looks At Protections From Feds

Nevada’s Senate is looking at two different resolutions today related to federal actions.

The Senate committee on natural resources will hear Assembly Joint Resolution 13 Monday.

It would give the legislature’s backing to both the Gold Butte and the Basin and Range national monuments.

Sponsored by Assemblywoman Heidi Swank, a Las Vegas Democrat, the measure would also support the use of the Antiquities act.

That measure was used by president Obama last December to designate both the Nevada monuments and the Bears Ears national monument in Utah.

All three have come under increased scrutiny by President Trump.

Last week, he ordered a review of all national monuments greater than 100,000 acres created since 1996.

The resolution was passed in the assembly along strict party lines in a vote late last month.

The senate is also considering Assembly Joint Resolution 2 Monday.

That would codify same sex marriage as a right in the Nevada constitution.
