Joint Finance Committee Hearing To Look At Independent Counsel For Gaming Control Board

Nevada lawmakers have a joint finance hearing Wednesday evening for a measure that would permit the state Gaming Control Board to retain its own independent legal counsel.

The Nevada Independent reports the hearing is connected to concerns by the board’s Chairman A.G. Burnett that Attorney General Adam Laxalt was working on behalf of casino magnate Sheldon Adelson when he called Burnett last year.

Laxalt will get his first opportunity at this evening’s hearing to tell his side of things publicly. Depending on how it goes, it could shake Laxalt from his lead among Republicans for the 2018 gubernatorial race.
