Bill To Create Government Watchdog Office Dies

The bill that would have created a watchdog office within Nevada's government has fizzled yet again.

Assembly Bill 404 would have established an Office of the Inspector General, a deputy inspector general, special counsel and other staff. The Nevada Independent reports the bill’s Republican co-sponsor Chris Edwards has said the bill will likely die this legislative session since it never made it out of committee before the first house deadline.

The office would have been tasked with preventing waste, fraud, abuse and corruption in local and state government agencies, but the money to establish such an undertaking was not there.
