LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada firm has become the first company in the nation approved to fly drones over the Las Vegas Strip.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reportsWednesday that aerospace company AviSight will be able to fly above the resort corridor including the strip.
The company's vice president of technology William O'Donnell says the approval opens opportunities to contract its services. He says movie filming, casino marketing, construction and more could all benefit from using drones.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says several companies are allowed to fly in the same airspace, but AviSight can fly in places adjacent to the strip. He says other companies are limited to one spot.
Gregor says each flight will be limited to within a quarter mile of the approved location and below an altitude of 200 feet (61 meters).
