Flooding In Elko County Continues Near Winnemucca

Flooding in Elko County has continued after weeks of wet weather.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports the Humboldt River was roughly 18 inches above flood stage this morning between Battle Mountain and Winnemucca.

National Weather Service officials predict the river will crest near Winnemucca by Thursday before starting to recede.

It's caused flooding in parts of Winnemucca, and more precipitation is expected in the coming days as snowfall.

A flood warning remains in effect through tomorrow morning for low-lying parts of Elko County.

KNPR's State of Nevada spoke to Elko County Sheriff Jim Pitts last week, who said cleanup from the flooding countywide would cost millions of dollars to undertake.
