Flooding Befalls Elko County After Bad Weather

The week's bad weather in Northern Nevada has caused flooding throughout Elko County.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports the Humboldt River is a foot above flood stage and continuing to rise.

National Weather Service officials think the river may rise another half-foot before cresting tomorrow.

Flooding has also spread to Eureka County, where washes and creeks as well as the Humboldt River are above normal levels.

A bridge over Salmon Falls Creek near Jackpot is also flooded over, with water levels there still rising as of midday.

State Route 233 is still closed near Montello after a dam failed earlier this week, and officials have no idea when it will reopen.

U.S. Highway 93 near Wells is also closed, while Interstate 80 in the same area reopened to full traffic earlier today.
