Tonopah Town Board Backs Proposed Rail Project

Tonopah's town board has voiced support for a proposed high-speed rail link connecting Las Vegas and Reno.

The Tonopah Times-Bonanza and Goldfield News reports a group wants to build a magnetic levitation train linking Nevada's two population centers, with stops along the route in Tonopah and other small communities.

Silver Bullet Nevada wants to undertake a proof-of-concept study to see whether the train is viable, and the town board's vote was to write a letter supporting that study.

The proposal says the train would be privately funded, but the study itself would require $20 million from the state.

Other potential stops for the train project include Pahrump and Hawthorne.
