The Clark County Commission appointed a new state senator Tuesday.
Yvanna Cancela, a former political director for the Culinary Union and the current executive director of the Citizenship Project, was appointed to fill the seat in District 10 vacated by Ruben Kihuen.
Kihuen left the seat after being elected to Congress last month.

Three applicants put their names in for consideration to take Kihuen's seat.
Melissa Clary and Justin Campese were considered by the commission as well.
Anyone who applied for consideration to take Kihuen's seat needed to be a Democrat living in District 10, like Kihuen was.
Cancela will serve the remainder of Kihuen's term, and will be up for election in 2018.
