LAS VEGAS (AP) — A former Culinary Union political chief, a Department of Veterans Affairs information technology project manager and a marketing services official at a business advisory firm are applying for a Nevada state Senate vacancy created by Ruben Kihuen's election to Congress.
Clark County officials said Wednesday that Yvanna Cancela, Melissa Clary and Justin Campese submitted paperwork by the noon deadline for consideration by the Clark County Commission.
The seven-member commission is expected next Tuesday to appoint one to serve in the Legislature, which opens Feb. 6.
The applicants were required to be registered Democrats, like Kihuen, and live in District 10.
The area includes the Las Vegas Strip, McCarran International Airport and UNLV. It would also be home to a planned $1.9 billion Las Vegas football stadium.
