Abandoned NV Energy Building Gutted By Fire

Fire officials say no one was injured but an abandoned NV Energy was gutted by flames in an early morning blaze east of downtown Las Vegas.

Deputy Clark County Fire Chief Jon Klassen says county and Las Vegas firefighters found heavy flames when they arrived a little before 3 a.m. at the one- and two-story building on East Desert Inn near Pecos roads.

Klassen says the building was sometimes used by squatters, but crews determined there was no one inside before taking up positions to fight the fire from outside.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that part of the roof collapsed a little before dawn.

A cause of the fire wasn't immediately determined, and Klassen says a damage estimate wasn't immediately made.
