Searchlight Windfarm Proposal Blocked Again

A proposal to build a windfarm in Searchlight has hit another obstacle.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the company wanting to build the facility must restart its environmental impact studies on the area before going forward.

In Nov. 2015, a U.S. District Judge halted plans for the project to go forward, but developer Apex Clean Energy appealed that decision.

The judge cited the potential displacement of desert tortoises as a reason for the plant's construction to be halted, as she said preliminary impact statements did not line up with what environmentalists had projected.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals agreed with the judge, and the proposal is back on hold.

The plant would have had 87 turbines.

No word yet on whether or not construction will go forward in any modified way.
