Sandoval Wants To Resurrect ESA Program

The Nevada governor says he will work with lawmakers to try to resurrect the state's school vouchers program.

The Nevada Appeal reports that Gov. Brian Sandoval said on Monday that he still plans to include the program in his upcoming budget.

Sandoval says he is working with Sen. Scott Hammond, a Las Vegas Republican who wrote the Educational Savings Account bill. The program was struck down by the Nevada Supreme Court, but Sandoval is hoping Hammond can develop a new plan that might be acceptable the majority of the now Democratically controlled Legislature.

The ESA bill, which was passed at the end of the 2015 Legislature session, promised to let parents use the state share of per pupil funding to help pay private school tuition.
