Oakland Reaches Framework Deal To Keep Raiders

Las Vegas' hopes of getting the Oakland Raiders to move to southern Nevada may be dead in the water.

NBC Bay Area is reporting Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf's office says a deal is in place, in principal, to prevent the Raiders from leaving California.

The station said it received word Oakland City Council and the Alameda County Board of Supervisors would be meeting through the next week to discuss the proposal.

Former Raiders player Ronnie Lott was leading a consortium to try and build a new stadium for the team in the Bay Area, and reports suggest that group's proposal has been accepted by lawmakers.

In October, the Nevada Legislature passed a bill allowing for $750 million in public funding for an NFL stadium in the hope of attracting the Raiders to town.

There is a provision in the law signed that, if an NFL team does not relocate to southern Nevada, a smaller chunk of public money would go to building a new football stadium for UNLV's football team.
