Record Rainfall Follows Dry Elko Summer

ELKO, Nev. (AP) — Officials say the rain and snow that soaked much of northeastern Nevada is a good start to the water year, which began this month.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports that Elko received 0.92 inch of rain on Sunday, setting a record for that date. It is the most rain the region has seen since Sept. 22, which also set a record with half an inch of precipitation.

National Weather Service forecasters say a weaker storm is also expected to bring a 40 percent chance of rain on Tuesday.

The wet weather follows one of the driest summers in Elko's history, although NWS says the water year that ended Sept. 30 was well above average.
