LAS VEGAS (AP) — Air traffic controllers moved into the new McCarran International Airport control tower several weeks ago.
Now, the nation's top aviation administrator and local officials are marking the completion of the long-delayed project.
FAA Administrator Michael Huerta is due Tuesday to join Democratic U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, Congresswoman Dina Titus and other officials dedicating the new tower.
Work began in May 2011, but was delayed by government shutdowns in 2011 and 2013 and a massive construction error that prompted a do-over of the duct work of the 352-foot structure.
FAA officials say construction ended up costing $99 million.
The facility has space for 40 air traffic controllers to monitor aircraft at the nation's eighth-busiest airport.
It also has a four-story Terminal Radar Approach Control office building housing another 49 controllers.
