Nevada Officials Bar SolarCity From Metering Rate Hearings

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada officials say rooftop solar company SolarCity cannot participate in hearings involving metering rates.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that the Nevada Public Utilities Commission ruled Monday to exclude SolarCity from the case, which could restore more favorable metering rates to as many as 32,000 residential rooftop solar customers.

Commission Chairman Paul Thomsen found that SolarCity did not have a direct and substantial interest in the case.

SolarCity Chief Policy Officer Jon Wellinghoff says he is disappointed in the ruling and argues that excluding his company makes no sense.

In a Wednesday statement, SolarCity called the decision unprecedented and said regulators denied thousands of customers and their chosen energy provider a voice in determining fair policies.
