NDOT Launches Project To Widen I-15 Near Speedway

Las Vegas-area officials are marking the start of a two-year project to improve a busy stretch of Interstate 15 near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

A Monday ceremony at the speedway has Nevada Department of Transportation showing plans for the $34 million project to widen 5 miles of the four-lane interstate to six travel lanes in each direction.

Crews will also improve four overpasses, upgrade drainage and install new lights, signs and landscape.

The work zone is near North Las Vegas, about 12 miles north of the congested Spaghetti Bowl interchange.

A separate project $1 billion effort called Project Neon caused the closure of a ramp from U.S. 95 to I-15 during the weekend.

That project will widen the congested I-15 section between Sahara Avenue and the Spaghetti Bowl.
