Cost For UNLV Debate Doubles

The price tag for the third presidential debate to be held at UNLV next month just went up.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the original projected cost of $4 million has doubled to $8 million.

The extra money is coming from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, which put up the initial $4 million for the debate last year.

However, under the terms of that deal, UNLV would have to shoulder any cost overruns, meaning the university will need to come up with this next set of $4 million.

UNLV and the LVCVA decided to handle the additional funding in this way so the LVCVA could continue its role negotiating with vendors and contractors, rather than having to make UNLV take it over in the run-up to the event.
