Wildfire Near Wheeler Peak Spreading

Authorities say a fast-moving wildfire has a road, trails and campgrounds closed while crews work to stem its spread near Nevada's second-highest mountain peak.

The National Park Service said Tuesday that the fire near Wheeler Peak started small on Monday but quickly spread over an estimated 5 square miles of rugged canyons and hillsides in Great Basin National Park.

Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive is closed, along with the Wheeler Peak and Lehman Creek campgrounds and trails between them.
